A Saturday Night Out With Buddies From School At A Local Saloon Leads To Irresponsible And Excessive Drinking And Symptoms Of An Alcohol Overdose

When Lois was in high school, she had gained a reputation as a person who studied a lot and who rarely, if ever, partied with her friends. She seemed single-minded about excelling academically so that she would be able to secure a career that she not only enjoyed but one that also gave her a degree of security from a financial point of view.

After Lois completed high school, she applied to and was accepted into a highly rated program in economics. Her reasoning for this decision was that this subject matter would be good training for law school and would not be identical to the majority of law school applicants who choose political science as their undergraduate minor or major.

Lois was the type of person who worked in a rigorous manner to finish what she started and then would take a break when she could. It just so happens, however, that a large number of the things she did between terms or during her summer vacations did not involve drinking. Obviously, Lois was anything but a partygoer. Now that her finals for her second year in law school were over and feeling overjoyed that she had done extremely well on her exams, nonetheless, she wanted to let her hair down and do something besides studying for a change.

So Lois and a few of her buddies went to a local saloon where they had a few mixed drinks. As the evening progressed, Lois and her pals continued to drink. In fact, she was having so much fun that she didn't want the night to come to an end.

After drinking around two-and-a-half hours when Lois started to slur her words, speak in a confused manner, and then pass out, nevertheless, her friends instantly knew that they needed to call that they needed to call 911 and ask for emergency assistance because they believed that Lois was exhibiting alcohol poisoning symptoms.

Lois was conscious of the fact that she came close to losing her life due to an alcohol overdose and, as a result, was gratified to be alive. At the same time, however, she was somewhat depressed knowing that she had almost passed away the night before. Her parents realized how intensely she studied at school and how little she let herself have any fun. Nevertheless, they also were aware that Lois needed to keep away from irresponsible drinking.

As a consequence, they recommended that in the future, whenever a drinking situation arises, that she always drink in moderation. Lois agreed and assured her friends and her Mother and Father that she would never ever drink in an abusive manner. As stated by Lois, "I never pondered the fact that I would become one of the alcohol poisoning statistics in the local newspaper. I now realize that careless drinking is not for me. I assert that this will never happen again."

Fortunately, Lois was not only "school smart" but she also possessed. Stated another way, she rapidly comprehended that she had made a mistake and decided that she would never make the same error again. In point of fact, she now understood that she had involved herself in "binge drinking" and that even one instance of this form of abusive and careless drinking can result in a fatality.
